Everything You Need To Know About ‘Coco Cuba’

chanel cruise collection 16-17

Okay guys, I’m so sorry about all the fashion posts lately but so much has just been happening in the fashion world that it is kind of hard for me to not have a say. So this past week saw a historic fashion moment happening. Chanel became the first international and luxury fashion house to host a fashion show in the Communist country, Cuba which no other fashion luxury brand has been able to do for the last 50 years.

Creative director Karl Lagerfeld launched the cruise/resort collection for 2017. The overall show was an absolute masterpiece the German designer proved once again why he is so well respected in the fashion industry. The collection was filled with so much colour and was probably one of the most relaxed collection by Chanel, but with a touch of modern elegance and class. The show was held at the Paseo del Prado street in Havana where Lagerfeld later transformed the popular street into a massive fashion party.

Who was invited? Chanel flew down 700 people for to its historic fashion show with the front row including guests Gisele Bündchen, Vin Diesel and Tilda Swinton. On the arrival to the show the guests were escorted to the venue in Cuban colourful-popping, vintage convertible cars. Talk about making a grand entrance, geez.

Who were the models of the show? Chanel kept its regular and gorgeous models for the show. The ‘it’ models for Chanel who walked down the runway include Lindsey Wixson, Brad Kroenig, and Baptiste Giabiconi who also currently the male face of Chanel.

The inspiration behind the collection? Details of the collection were inspired by the Cuban history and its lively culture. The t-shirts were designed with bold and electrifying statements such as “Viva Coco Cuba Libre” while the berets which were one of the main details of the collection were clearly inspired by ‘Commander’ Che Guevara who was an influential figure of the Cuban Revolution.

The theme of the show? The collection was very laid-back, chilled and exquisitely designed. Most the pieces were relatable and colourful, radiating the bright colours of the Paseo del Prado street.

What happened at the after-party? The Paseo del Prado street after the fashion show was transformed into a massive street bash. There are even videos circulating the net of King Karl breaking it down into the ‘cha-cha’ with the models and guests.

So basically Chanel killed it once again and did I expect anything less from them? Nope, not at all.  But I must that kid, Hudson Kroenig is one lucky bugger! And bet you he doesn’t even know it. Sigh.
