Detox Diary: Why You Need A Summer Skin Detox

Whenever your body tells you its feeling bloated, heavy and congested you’ve probably turned to a detox diet. The purpose of ‘detoxification’ is to help cleanse your body from waste, impurities and toxins to keep the body functioning at its best; to improve digestion and restore energy.

But how often do you do a skin detox? A skin detox is a great way to cleanse your skin and pores from impurities for a healthy and radiant glow. Pollutants and dirt from the environment can clog your pores, and toxins from your diet can cause your complexion to suffer.

Fortunately, Neutrogena has launched a skincare range AKA your skin’s new best friend, that specifically focuses on detoxing your skin; to help brighten your skin and reduce breakouts and hyperpigmentation.

It is a wine tasting showcase with more than 20 wineries and distillers with a range of over 60 products to taste from all over the world. Yes, this also includes sparkling wines from Germany and Italy (I even had the privilege of tasting a red sparkling wine for the first time!)

Strobing (Highlighting) 101 Tips

I am no makeup artist, but I wouldn’t necessarily say I’m the worst when it comes to makeup. I still know how to beat my face when necessary and with the practice  I must my makeup game is slowly improving. However,  I must admit I’m still very faulty and I have never really been able to the master the whole contouring technique. Alas, makeup artists and vloggers have come to our rescue and showed us that you don’t have to slay by knowing how to contour. Instead strobing (highlighting) is the new and best way to get those facial features popping. I must admit strobing is way better than contouring for me, because it is a more natural and stunning way of highlighting a person’s gorgeous facial features.

“So, what is strobing? Strobing is actually not a new technique; it’s been around in the makeup game for many years—you might know it as highlighting. Strobing is basically highlighting to the extreme and letting the highlight define your facial features without the use of bronzer or contour. The main goal for strobing is to concentrate a highlight on the highest points of your face, where light would naturally hit, to create a “glow from within” dewy, radiant complexion.” – Elaine Barnett (The EVERYGIRL)

Make A Statement In A Skirt

I’m not the type of girl who is into clothes that are heavily textured, printed or patterned. Instead I prefer keeping my sense of style very solid and minimal. However, once in a while you have got to buy that show-stopping item for your closet. It might be a risky buy at first, but it will surely turn heads when you walk by and that’s exactly how I feel about my ‘Alphabet’ statement skirt by South African designer Anisa Mpungwe for Mr Price.

Fashion Trend: Sleepwear Street Style

So I’m sure we’ve all once in lives been tempted to go shopping in PJs to buy some milk for our coffee or sugar for our cup of tea. But it’s always only been thought until now, celebrities are rocking their sleepwear as casual wear on the streets and on the red carpet meaning it is officially the norm for everybody else as well.

This sleepwear trend has been around for quite a while now, but it is soon making its way back as trend favourite. People like Rihanna, Selena Gomez and Ciara have been made rocking PJs in public an effortless and sexy look. And can I just say I’m so in support of this fashion trend all the way.

Empowering Myself With Patience And Determination

I know this a very different and unusual post in comparison to what I originally write about, however, I thought the message behind this shoot was important to share. I recently did a shoot for a friend of mine who is a professional photographer, she had asked me to model for her in a very intimate shoot. At first I was nervous about the whole thing mainly because I’m not the sexy kind of girl at all! And I’m okay with, but now how am I suppose to pose in front of a camera and make people believe I’m sexy. But to my surprise the whole shoot was a great success and it helped me love myself more. We all have insecurities but we can work on those insecurities and turn them into our strengths.

The Internet has become a space filled with negativity and positivity depending on where you’re looking. When I was growing up there weren’t social media platforms which encouraged self-love or helped a person to learn to be comfortable in their skin, instead it showed me what was accepted by society and what wasn’t. However, as the future generation we can change that and remind young people behind us that they can be whoever they want to be and no matter what they look like, they will be loved, because beauty comes in “endless amount of forms and we need to recognise that.” – Alessia Cara.

Exploring The Vineyard of Paarl

Cape Town is no doubt one of the most beautiful cities in South Africa. The beautiful view of Table Mountain and Lion’s Head is one I will never get tired of looking at when driving into the city. While in Cape Town I had the time to explore some of the hot spots of the city and dine out at some of the cutest restaurants and cafes. A cafe that I really enjoyed was ‘The Big Box’ a place where you can play any board game imaginable while you wait for your food, you’ll even forget you ordered food with the board games keeping you so entertained.

However the best thing I did manage to do while I was in Cape Town was go wine tasting. Being an enthusiastic fan of wine it wouldn’t have been right for me to have left the Western Cape without quenching my thirst.

My Internship Experience & Tips For You

First of all I would like to apologise for my sudden absence from blogging. I was in Cape Town for a short while working and learning under the amazing team of Marie Claire South Africa, and it was definitely one of the best experiences of my life, so far. Even though I was in the beautiful city for work related reasons I did manage to sneak in some fun and luxury time which I will share with you later this week.
